Two Halloween Shows!!

I’m not gonna lie, I like playing dark, creepy music. Always have, always will. I was always drawn to music that has a sinister, moody vibe to it. In MMZ, the sound of the Mellotron has really helped me bring those feelings to the forefront of my sound, using lots of gothic strings and choir. In a great new documentary about the Mellotron entitled “Mellodrama” there’s a section featuring Italian Horror directors, and they’re use of the mellotron in many of their soundtracks. Italians don’t fool around when it comes to horror…or Pasta

This October, we’ll be able to treat both our Connecticut and NYC audiences with Halloween shows on October 29th and 30th. On the 29th, we’ll be back at the Heirloom Arts Theater for a full blown multi-media experience, which will definitely give you the total Halloween feel. Since Opeth won’t be on tour this fall, make sure you make it down to one of these shows.

Summer 2010

It’s been three years since we’ve played Toads Place, and it was great to be back up on the stage at the famous New Haven club. It’s pretty cool walking through the halls downstairs and seeing the names of all the artists who’ve played there, or the pictures that are all over the walls. Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, U2…..

Though we didn’t go on until 11:30, our fans were so supportive, going nuts, headbanging and getting right up to the stage. We did two of the newest songs “Cemetery Road”, and “Rhythm Child” that we’ve been demoing at Horizon Studios in West Haven.

We’re looking forward to the release of Laceration as the next song on Rockband. We promise that this one will be harder…though not as hard as some of the other ones coming…=)

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Space!

MMZ in NYC Nov 13!

We’re all really psyched to get back to NYC for a very special gig this upcoming week at the cool venue “Ace of Clubs” in the Village. We recently played a great showcase at the CMJ festival a few weeks back, and off the buzz from that gig, we decided to get back to Manhattan ASAP!

Not only will we be playing songs from our new full length disc “Mile Marker Zero” (which you can buy at itunes or amazon or right here at our store ) but maybe you’ll hear something off of 2006’s “The Haunted” (which you can also check out at itunes amazon ) and possibly some other “fan favorites”.

This is going to be a very fun show and it starts next Thursday November 13th at 6:30 pm. Lots of great bands, lots of great fun, and some special giveaways!

The Fall

Up next for MMZ

We’re all working hard towards getting things moving for the fall, and there’s no time like the present to get stuff done! We’re all working as a unit, and I’m so psyched about all the new material that we have to work with. Soon, I think we’ll have to put our noses to the grindstone and really make the next material that we write even deeper and more challenging and more epic than ever before! I’m particularly excited about one of the new ideas that Mark brought to the table recently. Great work bro!

Lining up a tour for the fall has its challenges, but I’m confident that the people that are working in tandem with us will make something really cool and unique happen. I’m just happy to go out and perform our music for people who have never heard us play before! I always look forward to playing “Crimson Red ” live, like we did this past weekend in Hartford and in Waterbury. The great part about a song like that is that it is never exactly the same twice! For those not familiar with “Crimson Red“, I have a long improvised solo in the middle (think La Villa Strangiato for all you Rush fans) and then the section immediately after is an “anything goes” atmospheric section with everyone improvising the texture as they see fit. This is one of the great things about our band. You can see us play the exact same song live 6 times, and every time there’s something new to appreciate!

On June 26th, we set up to play a rare acoustic set at the Arrow Bar in NYC. Before the show, we filmed some segments for RealMagicTV.com.

Before our set at the arrow bar last friday night, we had the opportunity of meeting Jonathan, a really talented magician with a really original premise. I’ve never seen anything like what Jonathan does… It was a lot of fun for all of us, and I hope we can do it again soon.

I guess it’s good to know that I can spew those rediculous stats under pressure… Go Yankees!!

The Beginning of the Beginning…

So we’ve got new everything it seems… new website, new CD, new logo, new tunes, new pics, new team of people we’re working with, and a new excitement about everything, with the same old group of guys I’ve had the pleasure of working with for years. We’re all really psyched for the potential of what’s to come in the next months and years. I can honestly say that I’ve never been more excited for what could happen, and we’ve been playing for… a while, to say the least.

The last few shows we’ve played have been great, taking over rooms at the Webster and Heirloom and getting some killin’ bands to play along with us. It’s gratifying to know that MMZ can pull off organizing an entire show front to back, have a great turnout, and then we can just sit back and rock!

I’m excited for everyone to hear the new tunes as well, as they’ve already started to infiltrate our recent set lists. There’s nothing like playing new tunes, especially live, and once they new record is released and you get more familiar with them, you can rock out just as hard with me at the shows! Until then, enjoy the new site and keep a lookout for more new MMZ stuff along the way.
